Public Health England introduces “Sugar Smart App”

4 January, 2016

Public Health England have developed and launched a new app, which shows parents the exact sugar content in the food and drink they’re feeding their family.

Working on more than 75,000 products nationwide, the app allows parents to scan barcodes on many given products to reveal the total sugar in either cubes or grams.

It is hoped that the app will help to counter act tooth decay, type two diabetes and obesity.

According to Public Health England, children are eating three times more than the sugar limit. Part of the Change4Life advertising campaign, it is hoped that the app will encourage healthier alternatives leading to a healthier lifestyle overall.

The sugar smart app is free to download from app stores.
